Emma’s October Reviews

The weather has been absolutely glorious in Northern Ireland this October, to make up for the horrid summer, they say :-), so I was absolutely thrilled when Emma was offered the opportunity to review this brilliant sandpit from Wickey, a great German company, of which I had not heard before, to my shame! The communication with the brand was swift and extremely professional, from the very beginning, and the wooden sandpit flip, measuring 110x125cm, was send out as soon as we agreed on the review terms and arrived within two days, by courier, all the way from Germany and smelling wonderfully of pine and forest adventures! Alex was a bit reluctant when he realised that it hadn’t come assembled and had to be put together manually but with a bit of encouragement, he proceeded, all to Emma’s delight and excitement! The instructions were clear and simple to follow, the wood cut perfectly and packed helpfully and before we knew it, we had a beautiful sandpit sitting in our back garden and a deliriously excited young …

What this mummy loved in…September

I have entered a season of change and I have felt the almost overwhelming need to look after myself in the last month. In my last personal post I was talking about taking time off to figure out how things will go from here. Things haven’t been as straight forward as I would have needed them to be, as, in spite of being signed off work for a couple of weeks, peace has eluded me. Hubby suffers from what we now know to be SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) and instead of being able to rest, I have been worrying constantly last week about him (as his sadness seems to be much worse this year) and the future. So, my only way to find peace has been to draw on things that have brought me joy in drops this season. Here is a list of things that this stressed out mummy has found comfort in this past month: Self-care, in the form of Bach flower remedies as drops into my drinking water, a little pampering session …

Back to School Heroes

The schools have been back for almost a month and most our children have already been through their first set of school-related sickness or even worse, visit to the doctor or the pharmacist! I have been sent all month of September things to try out with Emma, that would prevent some of the normal ailments and plagues children get once they return to school and into a germ-exchanging community, so to say :-). Very high on my list is Picksan, NO LICE, a new lice preventative stray. I work in a school environment too so picking lice is a genuine concern at times.  Fortunately , we were sent Picksan which is supposed to be a “natural and effective approach for preventing and treating head lice for your family.”  NO LICE! Preventative Spray and LICE STOP Shampoo Treatment are natural and scientifically proven applications for preventing and treating head lice for the whole family, from children age 3 to adults. In their press release, Picksan says “It’s well known that head lice are becoming increasingly resistant …

Marvel Kids Game Review

There is nothing I would have loved more than to see my son grow and become a regular wee boy, full of mischief and energy and thoughts of cars and engines and games! Recently, I have started to look into creating mementos and doing things that he would have maybe done and loved taking part in, had he still been alive. This month, we attended a healing through art seminar and I found myself creating for the first time a very boyish, vibrant frame in Georgie’s memory and not my usual baby boy blue, angelic ones. It was as if my psyche was forcing a real time frame into memories that otherwise will remain static and into the past. I felt the need to grow my boy into the toddler he should have been now and my frame captured the thought perfectly. So when, a few days later, Disney approached me and inquired if we would like to review their Marvel kids’ games with Emma, I took it as a sign and as an opportunity to …

Gifts with a difference from..I Just Love It!

Once in a while, I get to review things that are for grown-ups too! I am very excited to bring to your attention I Just Love It today, an online haven which could be described at the epitome of quality personalised gifting! Formerly known as Gone Digging, the shop retails the most impressive collection of personalised gifts, suitable for 0 to 99 year olds. We were offered a voucher and left loose in the shop, so to say, and this is what I picked for my wee family: personalised craft beer for Alex. Not only do you get to put the lucky person’s name on the label, you can also add a message of your choice on it, to make it even more personal. Mine was “Beauty is in the eye of the beer holder”, to reflect Alex’s recent preference for good quality, craft beer. The labels were a very well received surprise and the beer did not disappoint either! Alex wants to order now for his male friends and surprise them when they come …
