A Weekend on the North Coast

The North Coast of Ireland should be on everyone’s bucket list, it really should! We love it there and were delighted when Cancer Fund for Children offered us a long weekend away in one of their cottages in the area, as we knew there will be plenty to do and see over the three days! We decided to make the most of the gorgeous weather and kicked off our weekend with a picnic in the fresh air, overlooking the Whiterock beach. Alex had made some gorgeous prawn and salad wraps that we devoured, almost tasting the sea salt in the air. My brother fancies himself a connoisseur of spirits and other strong drinks so we couldn’t miss the opportunity and visit the Bushmills Distillery since we were only a stone’s throw away. I would have loved a tour of the place, just to give a clear account of tastes to my brother 🙂 but since children under 8 are not allowed, due to the strong fumes in the distillery, we had to do with a …

Barny Little Adventure Challenge Review

We have been privileged and were given the chance to review the new Barny bear-shaped sponge snacks last week. Not only that but because we were among the first 50 mummy bloggers to sign up for the Adventure Challenge(I guess all that early morning email checking pays off!), Emma received a Discovery Explore Bug Barn that took us on wonderful adventures this weekend! Many thanks, BritMums and Barny! With a small girl who has a VERY sweet tooth I am always on the lookout for snacks that are filling, nutritious but not necessarily unhealthy. I dose the treats carefully throughout the day, encouraging her to eat loads of fruit alongside/instead of sweet snacks and chocolate. The Barny snack meets my mummy criteria for a treat as it has 118 calories per serving and is enough to meet Emma’s daily sugar cravings(meaning she gets one of these little yummies a day and no more :-). The Barny snack definitely meets my little one’s criteria and she has already a preference for the “one with the chocolate …

Healthy Living Challenge: Day 18 – Car crash and pizza

This was an eventful day I am glad to see the back of. After work I drove into an industrial estate in Belfast to pick a DHL package (with more healthy goodies!!) but on the way out got crashed into. I had Emma in the car on the side that was hit but thankfully she was sleeping and  never became aware of it even. It was a minor crash and no-one was injured but my passenger door is jammed now and opens with a painful crack and my bumper is askew. Bummer! So no healthy dinners tonight, hubby took us out for pizza at Pizza Express. I had their light version, Legerra with Pollo because it had only 500 calories but found it heavy after almost 3 weeks of eating only healthy food. This is day 18, there are 22 days left of this healthy living challenge and I hope tomorrow everybody who drives by will stick to their side of the road 🙂

Healthy Living Challenge: Day 9 – Nine wisdom nuggets

Okay, so I was pondering today on what I have learnt(or have been reminded of) since I started this health challenge. 1. Whatever change you want to make in your life, start TODAY! For so long I used everything and everybody as an excuse for not eating healthily and for procrastinating . That bikini body I want, guess what? It will never happen unless I ditch the “ifs” and “buts” and “tomorrows”. 2. Start small. If you haven’t moved all winter(like moi!) then start taking short walks every day(weather permitting). If you have been eating double what your hubby ate(again, like moi…) then eat a bit less. Whatever you aim to achieve, achieve it with every meal, with every little change. 3. Congratulate yourself when you manage to stick to your resolutions, don’t beat yourself up when you stray from the plan. Okay, I had Chinese on Friday night( the most sensible Chinese I’ve ever had!), okay, I had a bit of apple pie and  crème brûlée ice cream today. As long as these incidents …
