Heroes of the City Giveaway

Well, I hope you have enjoyed your winter holidays so far, that you have received (and given) what you were meant to and that the first hours of 2014 found you rejuvenated, relaxed and ready for a brand new and exciting year ahead! New year, new exciting things for our blog, definitely! The second day of the year and we are honoured to host our first giveaway ever! A couple of weeks ago we were offered the opportunity to review Heroes of the City Movie App and we were sent a lovely toy car and book package with the heroes featured in the games to give away to a lucky boy(or girl, why not?) I was curious on how Emma would take to the app, given the fact that she has been downloading only girly games so far onto our mini iPad and this app seemed geared mostly for boys, with fire engines, police cars, boats and airplanes featured as main protagonists.  The game is bang on designed for children her age and I am …

2013 in review

I know these figures don’t compare to other blog successes. But I have learned to take joy in my own victories and assume them as my own, without concerning myself very much with comparisons. So here it is, the celebration of what this blog has been in numbers for me in 2013. Thank you everyone who commented, visited and showed care and concern. Here is to a glorious 2014 and a very happy New Year! The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2013 annual report for this blog. Here’s an excerpt: The concert hall at the Sydney Opera House holds 2,700 people. This blog was viewed about 9,600 times in 2013. If it were a concert at Sydney Opera House, it would take about 4 sold-out performances for that many people to see it. Click here to see the complete report.

Christmas presents for the healthy-minded loved ones

I know this post comes a bit too close to Christmas but if you are like me, always struggling to find appropriate Christmas presents for the healthy-minded ones in the family,  you might find it helpful. A few weeks back the lovely people at Global Bounty invited our wee family to choose from and then sent us a selection of their wonderful products to try out. We got gluten-free morning cereal, a couple of natural supplements from Iceland (the country!) for children and grown-ups and loads of yummy and variously flavoured ginger chews. We had a go at each and every one of them and were very satisfied with their quality. The muesli have NO artificial sweeteners, nor sugar added, only pure oats and dried fruit, to my health-conscious hubby’s delight! Highly recommended for coeliacs and people suffering from thyroid dysfunctions, like myself. The chews are great for ginger lovers, I use them for sore throats and bad breath, they work like magic! My favourite flavour at the moment is the peppermint but I like …

Christmas Gift Ideas

With 43 days left until Christmas (how can this be, it seems like it was only yesterday Emma was splashing in the sea in Halkidiki??), all retailers, small businesses and private sellers have gone into a tizzy. And so have all the caring family members, especially the ones who have a lot of people and tastes to please and a budget to stick to. I must confess, with a baby on the way, I started extra early this year as I know that come December I will be too heavy and tired to go shopping or spend hours online trying to find bargains. Santa has already bought Emma (and even wrapped it all up) a lovely Barbie with complimentary car and a Tiana doll. She He has also thought of suggesting to daddy  his helper to add to the stash a couple of girlie outfits from Vertbaudet, since they have an online Christmas pre-sale on already and voila, little girl sorted for this Christmas! I have also decided to put together a list of ideas for …

Go Faster Food for Kids Review

Almost two weeks ago I was sent Go Faster Food for Kids, a lovely recipe book for busy children (and parents) to review. As we have moved meanwhile and the time has passed I decided to include it on my possible Christmas presents list, which I will update regularly from now until Christmas. The author, Kate Perry, has had a lot of experience in sports nutrition, going back to 2000, when she started researching foods that provide the best of fuel for athletes.  As a result, Go Faster Food, her first recipe book was written and geared to help athletes achieve the best results in marathons and sporting competitions by eating the right foods, in the right balance. Her present book was written to provide ideas and inspiration for parents of athlete children and their coaches. It offers an array of tasty, healthy and nutritionally balanced recipes aimed to power and support training and competition preparation. The book is neatly structured into two sections: the first offers a lot of researched information on children’ nutrition …
